Our Finger Lakes-residing family of six enjoys all things out of doors. We are an observant crew and enjoy reflecting on our discoveries. This virtual field guide catalogues the journeys we take around our beloved 35 acres in Middlesex Valley. Several miniature ecosystems are available for us to roam: a deciduous forest, a creek, a pond, a meadow, a pine glade. We own six wonderful chickens, two guinea pigs, a cat and five caged indoor birds. And we host thousands of other fascinating creatures – feathered, furred, and scaled – within our property boundaries. We are avid observers whose attention to the little details of life are portrayed through photography, poetry and drawing. When we find something interesting, our goals are to learn by observation and documentation and to protect the cycle of life by (mostly) not interfering with nature’s way.
